Gotthard Base Tunnel

Gotthard Tunnel Opportunity

The opportunity for our photographer to go inside the new Gotthard Base Tunnel through the Alps was too good to miss, and it makes a rare and interesting photo for the picture observation game. About a year before the tunnel was officially opened on 1st June 2016, the public were allowed a look inside what is the world’s longest and deepest tunnel; today, with trains covering the 57km (35 mile) twin-bore, high speed tunnel in only 17 minutes, such a walk would be impossible. Before the tunnel opened, the Swiss predicted that its freight traffic between northen and southern Europe would save a million lorries a year on the roads. You can’t go in there, but you can study the pictures and see if you can spot the difference in the images.
