Take-away pizza

A good set of teeth may be needed to enjoy pizza, and luckily the lady in the advert seems to have them. Pizza is said to be the most widespread single food in the world (though you may think rice in the east is more universal?) You probably think pizza is originally Italian, but the ancient Greeks used to put toppings on flatbread, and there is some evidence that the Romans did something similar. More recently, Pizza Margherita was named in Naples in 1899 in honour of Queen Margherita, wife of the King of Italy. But it was when Italians started emigrating to America in the early 20th century that the fast food that is now so popular really took off.
