Downhill ski racing

This photo was taken at a downhill skiing event in Wengen, Switzerland. The ski village is in the imposing Jungfrau range, with some of the best scenery in the Alps – not that the competitors would have been looking at that!
Situated between Mürren and Grindelwald, at an elevation of 1,274 metres above the Lauterbrunnen valley, Wengen is only accessible by cog railway, and is therefore one of the few car-less ski resorts around.
The first ski races were held here in the early 1920s, and in January 2015 Wengen was the venue for the Men’s FIS Ski World Cup.
