Alpine chair lift in summer

In many places in the Alps chair lifts, which have a primary function of taking skiers up to the start of the pistes, remain open in summer and serve hikers and those who just want to see the top of a mountain when it isn’t covered in snow. This charming photo of a party of walkers on a lift silhouetted against a blue sky just makes you want to join them. Some chair lifts even allow you to attach a mountain bike and take it to the top for some exciting riding on the way down. In other places you can come down on a concrete toboggan run – winter sports in summer, anyone?
