The Roman Amphitheatre at Nimes, France

Nimes Arena claims to be one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world, and in keeping with this status it still stages Roman spectacles today. In the time of the Emperor Augustus the events were animal hunts involving lions, tigers and elephants, or gladiator fights to the death. Naturally, in the present day reconstructions of Roman games, Health and Safety rules see to it that no one gets hurt. However they still provide an interesting and educational historic experience.
