Seagulls in flight

A flock of whirling seagulls on the wing presents a challenging picture, as there is movement but no simple pattern. ‘Seagull’ is really a generic term for birds of the Laridae family, and is a convenient name used by those of us who can’t identify the actual species, such as the European herring gull or the Great black-backed gull. Even terns and gannets, different species altogether, may be wrongly lumped together by the loose term ‘seagulls’.
